‘Lady of the Beasts (dark night of the soul)’ was an original painting completed in 2016 as part of the ‘Interior Jungles’ exhibition. It was painted on the largest canvas I had worked on at the time measuring 140cm x 200cm.

It captures a victorious emergence of sorts after a time of introspection and internal reflection.

“It is a story of dualities, like the jungle, weaved into the tales and traditions of our ancestors, painted on the walls of caves and temples, and masked in the lullabies of our youth. We see it in the blue face of Shiva, depicted in benevolence and destruction, and in the Tarot cards whose upside-down hanged man links the underworld and heaven. The internal and external, masculine and feminine, life and death – they are forever linked, and eternally separate. The jungle looks upon those who look upon it. And it is at such depths, whether we be spurred to brazenness or timidity, that we find ourselves.”
